Chicago-born Cardinal Robert Prevost Elected Pope
Published: May 9, 2025.
It is with great joy and deep reverence that I share the historic news that His Eminence Cardinal Robert Prevost, O.S.A., a native of Chicago, has been elected as the next Pope of the Roman Catholic Church.
This extraordinary moment in the life of the Church is especially meaningful to our community given Cardinal Prevost’s roots in the Chicagoland area. His journey from our region to the global leadership of the Church is both humbling and inspiring. A member of the Order of St. Augustine, Cardinal Prevost has long been known for his profound pastoral care, theological insight, and dedication to the values of truth, unity, and charity.
As a Lasallian Catholic institution grounded in the wisdom and fidelity of St. John Baptist de La Salle and the Christian Brothers, we see in Pope Leo XIV a reflection of the same values we strive to live out every day: a commitment to community, service, education, and faith. His election serves as a powerful reminder of how local lives can have global impact when guided by purpose and compassion.
As we mark this remarkable milestone, we invite the entire Å·±¦ÌåÓý community to join in universal prayer for Pope Leo XIV. May his papacy be filled with wisdom, grace, and a deepened spirit of peace and unity.
With gratitude and hope,
Dr. David Livingston
President
